Mrs Louise Aitcheson, the Principal, expressed immense pride in the pupils’ accomplishments, saying, “I am incredibly proud of our pupils’ achievements and all that they have achieved in this year’s A Level examinations. These results are a testament to their commitment and willingness to give of their best. They have worked exceptionally hard and I am delighted to see that effort rewarded. I also want to express my sincere thanks to our dedicated staff, whose skill, encouragement and unwavering support have guided our pupils throughout their studies. The partnership between pupils, staff and families is at the heart of our success, and today’s results are something the entire Dalriada community can celebrate. As our leavers take their next steps – whether to university, apprenticeships or the workplace, I wish them every success for the future. Once a Dalriad, always a Dalriad; may they continue to dare to shine wherever life takes them”.
- Rugby News
Continuing on our long established trend of Dalriada rugby players playing for Ulster, we congratulate three of our Dalriads who represented their province this summer. Charlotte Thompson was selected to start for the U-18 Interpro Series opener against Leinster at Energia Park on Sunday 10 th August. Charlotte played the full game and made some great runs and tackles. Congratulations Charlotte on receiving your first Interpro cap for Ulster. We are all extremely proud of you! Archie and Angus Graham also had a fantastic Summer. Angus played for the Ulster U19s against IQ Rugby, scoring a try. Unfortunately, he injured his ankle, ruling him out of the Ulster Age Grade Squad, which played a very strong Saracens side at Osbourne Park. Archie played the full game and never took a backward step against older Saracens players. Both boys are involved in Interpros over the next few weeks. Angus is in the Ulster U19s and Archie is in the Ulster Schools’ Squad. Archie and Angus continue to shine both on and off the field. We are so proud of you both!
- Chemistry at Work
Seventy-four Year 11 pupils set off by train on Tuesday 19.11.24 to the QUB- RSC Chemistry at Work exhibition at the Whitla Hall, Belfast. The main aim of ‘Chemistry at Work’ is to show the many and varied ways in which the chemistry studied by pupils at school is used in the real everyday world. The Exhibition provided our pupils with the chance to see chemical-based companies and institutions presenting easily understood demonstrations of their use of chemistry at work. They were encouraged to participate in some of the demonstrations. The pupils particularly enjoyed the BOC gas/W5 demonstration which involved cloud generation, frozen balloons that self-inflated, condensing liquid oxygen out of the air and using it to help cotton wool burn more vigorously and using boiling liquid nitrogen to power a fly wheel. Hopefully, this experience has stimulated an interest in chemistry, particularly in industry, and demonstrated some aspects of the importance of chemistry in our society. The pupils were excellent ambassadors for the school. We would like to thank the Chemistry Department at Queen's University for their kind invitation to the event and Translink for their assistance in getting such a large party there and back safely.
