Chemistry at Work

Seventy-four Year 11 pupils set off by train on Tuesday 19.11.24 to the QUB-RSC Chemistry at Work exhibition at the Whitla Hall, Belfast.

The main aim of ‘Chemistry at Work’ is to show the many and varied ways in which the chemistry studied by pupils at school is used in the real everyday world.  The Exhibition provided our pupils with the chance to see chemical-based companies and institutions presenting easily understood demonstrations of their use of chemistry at work.  They were encouraged to participate in some of the demonstrations. The pupils particularly enjoyed the BOC gas/W5 demonstration which involved cloud generation, frozen balloons that self-inflated, condensing liquid oxygen out of the air and using it to help cotton wool burn more vigorously and using boiling liquid nitrogen to power a fly wheel.

Hopefully, this experience has stimulated an interest in chemistry, particularly in industry, and demonstrated some aspects of the importance of chemistry in our society.

The pupils were excellent ambassadors for the school. We would like to thank the Chemistry Department at Queen's University for their kind invitation to the event and Translink for their assistance in getting such a large party there and back safely.

Empowering Future Nurses Through Academic Excellence and Clinical Readiness

Introduction

Nursing education is designed to prepare students for the responsibilities and challenges of modern healthcare systems. It combines theoretical learning with practical application to help future nurses deliver safe, ethical, and effective patient care. Students are expected to develop strong clinical reasoning, communication skills, and professional judgment that allow them to respond confidently in a variety of healthcare situations.

As healthcare environments become more advanced, nurses play increasingly important roles in patient assessment, care planning, leadership, and interdisciplinary collaboration. These expanded responsibilities require students to strengthen their analytical thinking and evidence-based decision-making skills throughout their academic journey. Nursing programs therefore focus on preparing learners for both clinical competence and long-term…

It’s fantastic to read about students experiencing "Chemistry at Work" and seeing real-world applications; those interactive demonstrations make the science stick! I found myself totally immersed in my own Chemistry Master's program, but the complex quantitative analysis for my final dissertation started to feel like an impossible chemical reaction. To simplify the process and reclaim my evenings for painting, I decided to use professional dissertation statistics writing services to handle the heavy computational lifting.

I really enjoyed reading how Dalriada School brings chemistry to life in real world settings. It’s inspiring to see how online course takers can engage with practical experiments that make abstract concepts click.Posts like this remind me that learning is most exciting when it’s hands on and connected to everyday experiences, turning theory into something tangible and memorable.
